Pants On, Please!
What to wear – and what to expect – when you have a massage at Lorraine’s Treatment Room
I’ve booked a massage and I’m a little nervous. I have no idea what I should wear or what’s going to happen?
It’s completely understandable to be a little apprehensive. If you’ve never had a massage before, you might have absolutely no idea what you’re supposed to wear, what to do with your clothes, nor what’s going to happen.
And that’s okay.
Massage etiquette isn’t exactly something they teach you at school.
Please read on for more details and reassurance.
Massage isn’t the same everywhere
In America and some other countries, it’s quite normal for massage clients to remove all their clothing.
In some countries they even massage your boobs!
I’ve even experienced, before a massage in India, being given what I can only describe as a rather fetching disposable paper nappy – I looked like some kind of sumo wrestler!!!
Massage in England can tend to be a little more reserved. I can’t speak for the country (although sometimes I wish I could run the country!), however, I can reassure you on what to expect and what will happen when you schedule a massage at Lorraine’s Treatment Room in Kent.
So, what happens at Lorraine’s?
At Lorraine’s Treatment Room, I provide a professional massage service.
When you arrive we will have a quick chat about how you are feeling on the day, whether you have any immediate concerns regarding aches and pains, and what you hope to achieve from your treatment. I will then leave you to get ready and onto the couch and you can call me back into the treatment room once you are settled and covered with the sheet/drape.
Depending upon which massage you have scheduled, you may be asked to remove some of your clothing, however, we will always work within your own levels of comfort.
If you are having a full body massage, you will be asked to remove jewellery such as watches and chains that may get in the way of the flow of massage and also to strip down to your underwear. All clients are respectfully asked to keep their underwear on.
Ladies – whether you are wearing your Bridget Jones or something skimpier, I can work with any kind of undies. For bras, if you are having a back massage and wearing a sports bra, you will be asked to remove it to ensure I can massage your back properly. If you are wearing a bra with hooks and eyes, I can undo this and redo it up for you with no disruption while you are on the couch or you can remove it before getting on the couch.
Gents – please do arrive in either your favourite boxers, your Notting Hill Y-fronts, or a pair of shorts that keep your crown jewels nicely contained.
So, there is absolutely no need to arrive wondering whether you’re expected to lie on the couch in the altogether. You’re not. Keep your undergarments on. We’re all good.
But Lorraine, how are you going to massage my glutes if I’m wearing underwear?
The glutes are one of the largest muscle groups in the body, so it makes sense that they can carry a fair bit of tension and stress. So, yes, we can absolutely work on your glutes.
Professional draping means that I can access the muscles that need treating while keeping you appropriately covered and your dignity intact. Your underwear can be carefully moved to one side where necessary, without you needing to remove it.
What is professional draping?
Draping is a term ‘borrowed’ from the States. It means that you will be covered with a sheet / blankets / towels throughout your treatment and only the part of your body I’m working on will be exposed..
For back massage I need to get to the whole of your back from coccyx to occipital; for leg massage I need to get to your legs. You will never be asked to remove more clothing than necessary. If you would rather not remove any clothing then options such as reflexology and facials are possible.
The main thing is: don’t worry!
I want you to have the best experience. I’ll explain everything when you arrive, and you can always ask questions. My job is to make sure you feel comfortable, safe and respected throughout your treatment.
And, if you’re worried or wondering whether you need to arrive wearing nothing but your birthday suit… the answer is….Nope. Pants on, please.
Professional massage. Proper draping. Your dignity intact. And yes – your glutes can still get the attention they deserve.
